Today we have received an update of the registered users for the LIVE contest of the 4th edition of our Forex Trader of the Year Contest from our partner and sponsor HY Markets.

Currently there are 240 registered participants. Looking at the country of origin, the highest number of participants comes from United States (41), United Kingdom (35), Australia (17), Canada (16) and South Africa (16).

Remember that the Live Contest starts on September 6th, 2010, but summer holidays are just here so it’s a good time to register (or take for sure you will forget it in the beach :)).

Remember that you can participate with your current trading account with any given broker, so you do not need to open a new account with the sponsor to participate and win.

Also, remember that the main goal of the contest is to improve ourselves as a trader, not to burn out your account.

Hi everyone,

I just saw a post from Alberto Muñoz manager of FXstreet’s Forex Trader of the Year Contest 2010 that left me quite shocked. After just one week ago since the demo contest started here you have some of the highlights of the event:

1. 452 traders have traded at least one time.

2. 89 traders burnt the entire account, totaling $4,450,000

3. Losses out pace Wins almost 3 to 1.
110 traders winning $4,479,022.22
342 traders losing $13,538,644.45

3. Global equity of contestants shrink to $50,640,377.77 from the initial $64,150,000. Gross loss is $13,509,622.23, which represents 21.06% of all contestants funds and 49.94% of active ones.

some very interesting statistics about the first day of trading that was yesterday Monday May 3rd 2010.

Main findings - thanks a lot Luis for the info - were:

1. Only 400 of 1280 have traded yesterday.

2. 155 traders are winning, 185 are losing and 60 are flat

3. Considering the global results, contestants are losing $282,207 (-4.4% of total contestants equity and -16% of active traders equity).
So the global equity of the contestants has reduced to $63,717,793 from the initial $64,000,000.

We will watch out these figures regularly, it will be interesting to see how performance evolve during the contest.

The FX Trader of the Year 2010 Demo Contest started yesterday after the clock stroked twelve in Europe. The final number of participants is 1,240, slightly above the 2009 edition.

Forex Trader of the Year Contest 2010 - 4th Edition - broke this morning the 1,000 users registered. This morning we had exactly 1,023 registered users, 978 demo registrations and 45 for the live one.

On Sunday May 2nd at 24:00 GMT registration for the demo contest will close as the contest starts the next day. Registration for the live contest will remain open till the day before starting day.

Henyep Investment renamed Henyep Capital Markets
London based capital markets trading firm Henyep Investment, a division of global financial conglomerate Henyep Group, has announced that it will change it’s name to Henyep Capital Markets after FSA approval.
“The new name draws upon maintaining the 30 years of excellence and strong Henyep brand while emphasizing its’ commitment to providing retail investors with institutional quality access to the world’s capital markets including forex, metals, oil, gas, commodities, indices and equities,” said a press statement issued by The Henyep Group.

Trading competitions: some thoughts & and a challenge

My book Bird Watching in Lion Country (First Edition) and my mentoring programme produced three out of three top places in one of the most prestigious real money trading competitions around, the FX Street Forex Trader of the Year international trading competition.
In 2007, towards the the end of the trading competition, I was made aware of the fact that the leading two participants were actually readers of BWILC and one of them was on my mentor programme. Obviously I was delighted. They ended first and second. As a consequence I was invited to speak at the next (2008) FX Street Barcelona Traders’ conference. It was a privilege and a pleasure.

On Thursday April 15th I made a post here announcing that we had already 180 registered users for our Forex Trader of the Year 2010 contest.

Well, today I may say that after 9 days of having launched the promotion of the event, we already have 436 registered users.

Numbers are still too biased towards the demo contest over the real account contest, the one I think will be really helping you to improve your trading skills.

At this time, 420 traders have registered for the demo while 16 are already registered for the live.

Also, prizes are very appealing like a trip to Dubai, training courses, a laptop and much more…
